Vanya Shtereva is from Varna and is an actress. Vanya Shtereva is one of the few singers who writes her own songs – both the music and the lyrics. As a singer, Vanya Shtereva rose to fame in 2000 with her first song, ‘Portocalovo Momiche’. This was followed by the hits ‘Samo Tvoeto Ime’, ‘Chai Vmesto Led’ and ‘Shtete Te Kupya’. These songs spent over seven weeks in the Top 20 chart on MM TV, as well as in the Top 50 on private radio stations. In 2006, following the departure of their then-lead singer Momchil Karaivanov, the lads from “Dead Poets” invited Vanya to become their lead singer. And so she became the lead singer of a new band – “Matchpoint”. Shtereva writes about herself: “Broadly speaking, I’m a singer who produced one or two semi-hits and a belated album. I posed naked for the cover of ‘Playboy’ and that was that. Yet they still write about me in the newspapers. I regularly feature in the gossip columns. Even if I do nothing of substance, they decide it’s interesting. The truth, however, is that I am an average ‘star’ who covered herself in tattoos, got piercings all over the place, shaved her head and got divorced.” In 2008, Shtereva was part of the judging panel for the ‘Burgas and the Sea’ competition. She was accused of being the very reason why big names were disqualified. In response, Vanya Shtereva stated: “I found it very funny when I heard that I had ‘knocked out’ Toncho Rusev. Some musicians think they’re guaranteed a place at festivals. Nothing lasts forever – even the best artists sometimes write poor pieces.” Contact: vanya.shtereva@gmail.com
