Novite Tsvetia is a Bulgarian punk band from Kyustendil, formed in 1979–1980 and regarded as the first Bulgarian punk band. The future members of the band first heard punk music on Radio Skopje and decided to form a band. They started out with homemade instruments. The first tracks in their repertoire were covers of The Exploited and Peter and the Test Tube Babies, with lyrics written by the band. In those early years, many people came and went through the band, and their rehearsals were often ‘visited’ by the authorities. Their first demo recordings were made at parties and gigs in front of friends. In ’88, the young artist Rumen Sazdov from Kyustendil invited them to take part in his performance in front of the Art Gallery. The following year saw their first gig in Sofia – at the Universiada Hall. The band were spotted and invited to play several gigs with other bands at the Student Union. During this period, they also featured in Emo Bratanov’s ‘Blacktop’ chart. ‘Hot Letters’ came third, and ‘Radiation’ second. It was also around this time that they took part in the landmark concert at the Beer Factory alongside “Violet General” and “Green Kills”. In 1992, they performed at the Dark Party with NOVA GENERATION and VIOLET GENERAL in Kyustendil. Between 1993 and 1995, the band played with PSEUDOHOR, APATHY AND SNOBISM and HIPODIL at the former Party House. At the same time, they recorded the demo album "Radiation", which was released on cassette. This sparked interest abroad as well, and songs by Novi Tsvetia were included on several compilations, whilst Maximum Rock’n’Roll magazine published an interview with the band.
