NEMI EZERA was formed in February 1996 by Hristo Veselinov Zdravkov and Pavel Grozev. It has an authentic, unique style – reminiscent of Dead Can Dance, Swans, Pink Floyd, Throbbing Gristle and Tangerine Dream, yet it is more than just a ‘simple sum’ of these bands’ styles (not that the sum of these styles would necessarily be ‘simple’ or easily predictable). The band relies on live improvisation – almost all performances are recorded live and only remastered in the studio afterwards. There are many sound effects – both processed and from various ‘instruments of nature’ – shells, mussels, wooden surfaces, and so on. The music is by nature frightening, depressing, taking one far away from reality — the album "Chuzhd" definitely takes the lead in terms of heaviness and coldness, compared to other works that lean more towards symphonic dark wave ("The Softness of Your Hands", "Embrace"), psychedelic-art-trance ("Sorrow", "The End"), several entirely symphonic pieces with elements of psychedelic rock and psycho-death-industrial arrangements. A critique of the Decline and Decadence of contemporary consumer society, its drift away from primordial archetypes and from the natural world, are some of the ideas underpinning the band’s work. A silent film has been made to the music of NEMI EZERA, the main ‘action’ of which takes place at the ship graveyard in Varna. Darkwave Radomir is looking to get in touch with anyone from this band.
