Hollow Reflection is an Amsterdam-based DIY dark synth project that blurs the boundaries between dark wave, synth-punk and EBM. Originally a duo founded in 2020 by Yordan Kutiyski and Anita Kancheva, Hollow Reflection uses its music as a means of escape from the brutality of everyday life, expressing systemic criticism through socially engaged lyrics and devastating melodies. Whilst working on their debut album, it became increasingly clear that the two artists were pursuing different aesthetic goals, leading to an inevitable split. Nevertheless, Hollow Reflection continued as a solo project, embracing a rawer sound accompanied by male vocals in Bulgarian. In 2022, keyboardist Eliza Maniere joined the project, after which the duo began performing live in numerous Dutch cities, as well as in Berlin, Paris and Brussels. Hollow Reflection’s debut album consists of 8 tracks, steeped in dark bass riffs and seductive lead melodies, with each track drawing inspiration from various synth-based genres – guaranteed enjoyment for fans of dancing in the dark.
