Dark Venus is a synth/cold wave band formed in 2020 in Vienna, Austria. It consists of Stefan Weingartner [synthesiser, beats], René Vogelmann [synth, bass, vocals] and Rumena Trendafilova [vocals] – each bringing their own unique style to the band. Initially, the band came together as a relief from the boredom and monotony of life in lockdown, until their garage gigs proved successful. The three members quickly discover that, despite their different musical ‘backgrounds’, they share a love for dark post-punk and 80s electronica. Their songs serve as a dark narrative that invites listeners to confront the unsettling relationship between humanity and the relentless pulse of the city, technology and attachment, fairy-tale characters and the cacophony of a fragmented reality. Coming from different places and with diverse musical influences, the band embodies the idea that when boundaries are erased, new and unexpected connections can form.
