Brodnik is the living legacy of Upyr, seeking its own slow and heavy guitar sound and resonant drum section, playing within the doom aesthetic and adding a pinch of chaos from post-industrial elements that flow from grotesque noise into atmospheric ambient. Its members are: Emilian Shterev, Asen Santev, Yavor Dimov and Plamen Kolev. Brodnik delivers an inner ritualistic mood in the form of a darker, introverted atmosphere that has shaped other stylistic cultures such as doom and shadowy, screeching industrial noise. Their sound is predominantly analogue, characterised by haunting melodies, lo-fi noise and introspective lyrics that convey a sense of despair. The first Saturday in November – 2 November 2024 – marks exactly seven years since we last bid farewell to Boris ‘Boro Brodnik’ Nikolov. The pain of his loss has not lessened, but once again it unites us to remember him and celebrate his life at BORO FEST. The sixth edition of the festival will feature a rich line-up of dark bands to remind us of the love, inspiration and unyielding fire that burned in Boro’s soul.
