I stumbled across this recording by chance in an archive whilst looking for something else – it’s a cassette containing the song ‘Roman’, a version by Drugi Glasove – given to me personally by Neli Voeva around 1994, when we were doing the student radio show ‘Bez Zadrzhki’ on Radio Blagoevgrad with Cherkezov, Rosy and the twins. Every Wednesday I would go with a guitar to interview various artists who gathered at the Sredets Cultural Centre, because a programme on Efir 2 was bringing them together and I took the opportunity to do interviews for us as well. And so, one day Neli was there, we’d agreed to feature ‘Other Voices’ on our programme and she brought me the cassette – after Roman there was another track – by Alya from ‘New Generation’, who’d just left for Canada at the time. Neli explained to me that this was some sort of midnight improvisation that she had recorded and which, in my opinion, is very valuable today... We know that Alya loved Mitko very much. The track is dedicated to him!
