Absolute Beginners emerged in 1988 as an ironically named project by the younger members of Nova Generatsiya and Revyu – Simeon Voev, Konstantin Gyurov and Rumen Manchev, together with Chavdar Zhirov. Their sound was typical late-80s new wave/post-punk, and tracks such as ‘Obituaries’ and ‘Two Tears’ made them cult figures and closely associated with the scene surrounding the two groups. After years of hiatus and emigration, in 2012 Moni Voev and Konstantin Gyurov revived the band. Today, Chavdar (Charlie) Zhirov is back with them, and Alexandrina Alexandrova is on bass. The new album features eight new tracks plus a new version of “Obituaries”. You can listen to them on dwr.radio and on Bandcamp – absolutebeginners1.bandcamp.com. This is a track I’d missed, but I really liked it and from it I can tell they’re working on a new release. I’m personally looking forward to a new album. The band is active at the moment.
